How to Store and Protect Concrete Block Moulds
Cleaning, drying and suitable corrosion protection help preserve concrete block moulds during storage. Learn how to store moulds and prepare them for reuse.
Clean and Dry Before Storage
Remove concrete residue from the mould box and tamper shoes using suitable methods that do not damage working surfaces. Carry out this work after the machine has been safely stopped and its energy sources isolated.
After cleaning, ensure that no water remains on surfaces or in confined areas. Record any visible wear or damage before moving the mould into storage.
Apply Suitable Corrosion Protection
Apply a corrosion protection product suitable for the mould material and subsequent production to clean, dry metal surfaces. Select the product and application method according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
During extended storage, inspect the protective coating and check for corrosion regularly. Reapplication intervals depend on storage conditions and the product used.
Provide Suitable Storage Conditions
Store concrete block moulds indoors where possible, in a dry, ventilated area protected from rain. Use stable supports that keep the mould off the ground and safely carry its weight without loading vulnerable components.
If outdoor storage is unavoidable, provide weather protection while preventing moisture from becoming trapped beneath the cover. Label the mould box and its matching tamper assembly so they remain correctly paired.
Inspect Before Returning to Production
Check stored moulds for corrosion, damage, connection condition and working surface deterioration. If the protective product requires removal, follow its instructions before use.
After installation, check alignment and working clearances, then follow the machine’s commissioning procedure.
